Becoming
An Example of Becoming
Netflix’s “The Good Doctor” presents an excellent example of “becoming.” We all know that anybody who makes an effort and puts their time and resources into becoming a doctor can eventually have the title. But being a “doctor” is not the same as being a “good doctor.”
A good doctor goes beyond the call of duty though it may endanger his life or personal priorities. Moreover, a good doctor genuinely establishes solid relationships with his patients. A good doctor is very much devoted to his sacred mission.
However, the reality is not all doctors we know have this enormous sense of mission. That thing that is not satisfied by any amount of money or a special credit in exchange for the service. It does not have a price. It is something that goes beyond the premium.
Similarly, in my case, I have wanted to become “the person who did the right thing no matter what.” I have envisioned myself dying someday, leaving this fine print on the face of this earth. It is not only a choice. Deep within it is my calling. And I am choosing to go towards that calling. It may not be something everyone will choose. Because what it asked of me was to turn away from some people, habits, programming, and belief systems that have molded some parts of myself. I realized that it is not who I am. And I refused to remain in that state.
A Not-So-Easy Journey
Indeed, it is a difficult but rewarding journey!
There are no superficial credits. And it’s alright because that is not the goal. There are even more deductions. And again, it’s okay. The road to becoming who you are is never entrancing. It’s a tough one! And I say, perhaps this life needs one tough cookie like you, like me, like us.
I choose to embrace who I am no matter what. Gratefully, I have been cruising through this journey for a while now, and beautifully, I am becoming that person. Perhaps, this is what I am here for — to be that person who does the right thing when the situation calls for it; to become a voice for those who cannot speak. I like to think that this is part of my divine purpose. I embrace my becoming.
So what about you? What do you want to become?Â
