Political and Moral Views
Our choice of political leader reflects our moral views. And that goes beyond our personal choices as well. Quite frankly, we do not choose somebody not aligned with the principles we believe in. Otherwise, just like matters of the heart, eventually, it will lead to a relationship disaster.
Think About These
- If you believe in FAITHFULNESS and LOYALTY, you will NOT be with one who cheats and betrays, especially those who claim that faithfulness and loyalty are never the same.
- If you believe in TRUSTWORTHINESS, you will NOT be with one who has a pattern of breaking it.
- If you believe in HONESTY and TRANSPARENCY, you will NOT be with one who defensively opposes those and instead uses lies to cover it all up.
- If you believe in LEADERSHIP, RESPONSIBILITY, and ACCOUNTABILITY, you will NOT be with one who lives by his ego and does not take responsible action.
- If you believe in TEAMWORK, you will NOT be with one who does not bring his share to the table. Instead, he relies on you and even takes credit for it.
- If you believe in RESPECT and DECENCY, you will NOT be with one who lives a life of gossip, vulgarity, control, force, threat, and abuse.
- If you believe in FAIRNESS and JUSTICE, you will NOT be with one who bullies, discriminates, bribes, robs, stabs, kills, and even with one who keeps his silence when he needs to stand up for truth.
- If you believe in COMPASSION, you will NOT be with someone incapable of empathy towards an animal or his environment. Moreover, to people inferior to him and those in need of help.
- If you believe in PEACE, ORDER, CLEANLINESS, and SIMPLE LIVING, you will NOT be with one who lives a life of messed up decisions, clutter, and excess.
- If you believe in HEALTH, WELLNESS, KNOWLEDGE, FINANCIAL PREPAREDNESS, and DISCIPLINE, you will NOT be with one whose main habits are vices — sex, drugs, alcoholism, gambling, inappropriate debts, and materialism.
- If you believe in POSITIVITY, you will NOT be with one who is naturally toxic in words, deeds, and association.
- And if you truly believe in GOD and TRUE GOODNESS, you will NOT be with someone overly religious but lives a life of hypocrisy both publicly and privately.
Conclusion
So in hindsight, we choose people (political leaders, too) based on what is acceptable to our moral views. And I think our choices boil down to what kind of relationship we want with them, something we believe will work according to our values.
In this political aspect we face now, I hope we go into serious contemplation mode and ask ourselves, Â What kind of leader do I really want for my country?”
Our answer reveals what kind of person we are. Because basically, we are what we believe in.
If we think something is off or not synching within, perhaps we fix it first to make better choices that align with our moral values. We have to choose the one who can reasonably do that job. Otherwise, we are only settling. And settling is not the best choice. It, eventually, just leads us to another disaster again.
